My shadow shows... continued
The other direction has been to go tiny and intimate, and using a simple tabletop screen made from a cardboard box, and scenery from hand-made paper, I have added a mass of miscellaneous torches and night lights including LED lights and fibre-optic toys.
For The Little girl and the Moonman, set in Siberia, I've created snowstorms, sunsets, moonlight, starlight and spells producing a magical atmospheric music-filled show in collaboration with storyteller Anne Johnson and two classical musicians for Everyday Magic.
More shows are in the making together.
My newest adventures into the shadow world use computer printing onto acetate, purpose-made fibre paper images, shifting fabrics for seascapes and flexible puppets along with more poetic tellings and music. I discover so many stunning unexpected effects, and now the landscapes I am creating are at least as important as the moving figures - usually more so - a long way from traditional shows where puppets dominate.
